The Quartile Take

Cursed is a troubled production from Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson that suffered heavily from studio interference, reshoots, and a watered-down PG-13 rating. The plot is a fairly generic werewolf tale set in Hollywood with a thin mystery surrounding the original beast's identity. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable given the talented cast (Christina Ricci, Jesse Eisenberg) working with weak material. Cinematography is competent but anonymous, lacking the visual flair Craven showed in better work. Novelty is low — despite the Scream team reunion, the film offers little new to the werewolf genre and feels like a neutered attempt at the self-aware horror-comedy formula. The ending resolves predictably with a rushed reveal that fails to deliver satisfying payoff. Across the board, this is a below-to-average genre effort that disappointed fans and critics alike.
