A teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world.
Freddy's Revenge takes the series in an unusual direction by making Freddy a possessing force rather than a pure dream killer, which gives it a degree of novelty within the franchise and some genuinely unsettling body-horror moments. The cinematography has some effective visual set pieces, including the pool party massacre and the bus sequence. However, the plot is muddled and poorly developed, the acting is largely weak, and the ending feels rushed and unsatisfying. Its subtext has since become culturally noted, but execution-wise it remains one of the weaker entries in the series.
