Dragonfly (2002)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

A grieving doctor is being contacted by his late wife through his patient's near death experiences.

The Quartile Take

Dragonfly is a modestly engaging supernatural thriller that leans heavily on familiar grief-and-afterlife conventions without distinguishing itself. Kevin Costner's performance is committed and earnest, elevating the material somewhat, but the plot is predictable and derivative of better films in the genre. The cinematography is functional but unremarkable, and the ending attempts an emotional payoff that feels telegraphed rather than earned. The dragonfly symbolism and NDE premise offer mild intrigue but the execution is too formulaic to qualify as genuinely distinctive.
