Feast (2005)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

When a motley crew of strangers find themselves trapped in an isolated tavern, they must band together in a battle for survival against a family of flesh-hungry creatures.

The Quartile Take

Feast is a gleefully self-aware creature-feature horror-comedy that earned its cult status through energetic direction and cheeky meta humor (character title cards with absurd bios), though its plot is essentially a thin siege premise with little structure. The acting is surprisingly game from a scrappy ensemble, and the cinematography has a gritty, kinetic energy befitting its Project Greenlight origins. Its novelty comes from its irreverent tone and willingness to subvert genre conventions in fast, nasty ways. The ending, however, is abrupt and unsatisfying even by splatter-film standards, wrapping up messily rather than cleverly.
