Influencer (2023)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

While struggling on a solo backpacking trip in Thailand, social media influencer Madison meets CW, who travels with ease and shows her a more uninhibited way of living. But CW's interest in her takes a darker turn.

The Quartile Take

Influencer is a slow-burn thriller with a genuinely striking visual sensibility — director Kurtis David Harder uses the lush Thai landscape and isolation to build dread beautifully, giving the cinematography a real standout quality. The premise taps into contemporary anxieties about curated identity and social media performance with reasonable freshness. The acting is competent, with Cassandra Naud delivering a memorably unsettling performance as CW. However, the plot loses momentum in its second half as the perspective shift feels underdeveloped, and the ending is the weakest element — it resolves things too abruptly and without sufficient payoff for the tension built earlier, leaving the thematic threads somewhat dangling.
