Superman vs. The Elite (2012)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

The Man of Steel finds himself outshone by a new team of ruthless superheroes who hold his idealism in contempt.

The Quartile Take

Superman vs. The Elite adapts Joe Kelly's celebrated 'What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?' with genuine thematic weight — a sincere interrogation of Superman's no-kill ideology against lethal vigilantism. The ending is its standout moment, where Superman's controlled 'breakdown' is genuinely chilling and philosophically resonant, earning a well-above-average mark. The plot is solid and morally engaged but constrained by its short runtime. Voice acting is competent but unremarkable. The animation is functional DC animated fare without distinctive visual ambition. Novelty is above average for a superhero cartoon in its willingness to engage seriously with ethics, but the adaptation stays close to its source material without adding much new.
