Norman Bates is declared sane and released from the facility in which he was being held, despite the complaints of Lila Loomis, sister of his most famous victim. Is he really cured, or will he kill again?
Psycho II is a surprisingly competent sequel that benefits from Anthony Perkins reprising his iconic role with genuine nuance. The plot cleverly revisits Norman's psyche with a reasonably engaging mystery about whether he's truly cured, though it struggles to escape the shadow of Hitchcock's original. The acting is anchored by Perkins, who remains compelling, while the supporting cast is serviceable. Cinematography is functional but lacks the stylistic boldness of the original. Novelty is limited — it's a sequel working familiar ground, though it earns modest credit for taking a more psychological angle rather than pure slasher. The ending delivers a satisfying if somewhat pulpy twist that rewards patient viewers.
