The Final Conflict (1981)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Damien Thorn has helped rescue the world from a recession, appearing to be a benign corporate benefactor. When he then becomes U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Damien fulfills a terrifying biblical prophecy. He also faces his own potential demise as an astronomical event brings about the second coming of Christ.

The Quartile Take

The Final Conflict, the third Omen film, struggles to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the Damien saga. The plot is uneven, with Damien's grandiose schemes and the monks' assassination attempts feeling repetitive and poorly paced. Sam Neill brings genuine menace and charisma to the role of Damien, elevating the material considerably and standing as the film's strongest asset. Cinematography is competent with some atmospheric moments but nothing particularly distinguished. As a sequel wrapping up a trilogy, novelty is limited — it retreads familiar Antichrist territory without adding much new mythology. The ending, meant to be climactic and spiritually resonant, feels rushed and anticlimactic, undermining the buildup of three films.
