The living Volkswagen Beetle helps an old lady protect her home from a corrupt developer.
Herbie Rides Again is a lightweight Disney sequel that recycles the charming but simple premise of the original Love Bug. The plot—plucky old lady vs. corrupt developer—is formulaic and by-the-numbers, offering little beyond a vehicle for slapstick Herbie antics. Acting is serviceable with Helen Hayes bringing some warmth but nothing exceptional. Cinematography is standard early-70s Disney live-action fare. Novelty is low as it retreads familiar ground from the original without Dean Jones or significant creative reinvention. The ending resolves predictably. A watchable family film but distinctly average across all dimensions.
