Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
Four friends start to receive morbid Valentine cards and realise they are being stalked by someone they had spurned 13 years ago. A masked killer is on the loose and Valentine's day is soon approaching.
Valentine is a formulaic early-2000s slasher that follows the genre's conventions without much deviation. The plot recycles familiar revenge-killer tropes with a thin mystery and predictable beats. Acting is serviceable but unmemorable from its young cast. Cinematography has some competent slick genre polish typical of the era. The killer's identity twist is telegraphed and the ending fails to deliver satisfying resolution, leaning on a cheap final scare. Overall it's a derivative entry in the post-Scream slasher revival with little to distinguish it.
