Robbie, a local rock star turned wedding singer, is dumped on the day of his wedding. Meanwhile, waitress Julia finally sets a wedding date with her fiancée Glenn. When Julia and Robbie meet and hit it off, they find that things are more complicated than anybody thought.
The Wedding Singer is a charming but formulaic romantic comedy that coasts on the chemistry between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The plot hits every predictable rom-com beat with little deviation, and the cinematography is purely functional with no visual ambition. The acting from the leads is genuinely warm and likable, elevating the material above its script. The 80s setting and nostalgic soundtrack give it a mild novelty boost for its era, but the story itself is entirely by-the-numbers. The ending is crowd-pleasing and satisfying, delivering exactly what the genre promises.
