A masked villain wreaks mayhem on the city of Coolsville with a monster machine that creates real-life versions of Mystery Inc.'s former foes like The 10,000 Volt Ghost, The Cotton Candy Glob, The Skelemen and The Pterodactyl Ghost. Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, Velma and Scooby-Doo launch an investigation into the monster outbreak that leaves Shaggy and Scooby questioning their roles in Mystery Inc. Eager to prove their detective skills, the ever-ravenous duo comes up with a secret plan to solve the mystery all by themselves. Can the gang unravel their most challenging case?
Scooby-Doo 2 is a by-the-numbers family sequel that leans heavily on nostalgia for classic cartoon villains without adding much creative substance. The plot is predictable and formulaic, hitting the expected mystery beats without surprise. Acting is broad and campy, serviceable for the target audience but nothing noteworthy. Cinematography has some fun with the monster designs and practical/CGI creature work, giving it a slight visual edge over a typical kids sequel. Novelty is low — it recycles the first film's formula and the source material without a distinctive voice. The ending resolves predictably with little emotional payoff.
