A couple agree to have their deceased son cloned under the supervision of an enigmatic doctor, but bizarre things start to happen years after his rebirth.
Godsend squanders a genuinely intriguing premise about cloning and grief with a muddled, increasingly incoherent script. The film starts with emotional weight but devolves into a confused horror-thriller that never commits to any single idea. The ending is particularly poor, abandoning narrative logic for cheap ambiguity. The acting from De Niro, Kinnear, and Romijn is competent but undercut by weak material. Cinematography is the lone highlight, with some effectively chilling atmosphere. Overall a forgettable, derivative entry in early-2000s sci-fi horror.
