Abby is a pregnant woman with a curious new boarder in the apartment over her garage. Turns out he's heaven-sent and is speeding along the Apocalypse by bloodying rivers, egging on plagues and following scripture word for word.
The Seventh Sign takes an interesting biblical-apocalypse premise and grounds it in domestic drama, giving it a modest degree of novelty for a late-80s horror thriller. The plot has ambition — weaving Gnostic prophecy, the Soul Chamber, and maternal sacrifice into an apocalyptic framework — but execution is uneven and occasionally confusing. Demi Moore's performance is committed but strains under the weight of the material, and the supporting cast is largely unremarkable. Cinematography is serviceable but uninspired, with little visual flair to distinguish it from contemporary genre offerings. The ending attempts a redemptive emotional punch but feels rushed and undercooked given the buildup. Overall a passable but flawed curio of late-80s religious horror.
