Lindsay is stuck in the middle of her relationship with Ben and his passion for the Boston Red Sox.
Fever Pitch (2005) is a pleasant but formulaic romantic comedy that benefits from the unique backdrop of the Boston Red Sox's historic 2004 World Series championship run. Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon have serviceable chemistry but Fallon's limitations as a lead actor show through. The cinematography is workmanlike with little visual distinction beyond the Fenway Park sequences. The plot follows a predictable rom-com template — career-focused woman vs. man-child sports fanatic — with few surprises. The novelty is modest: the sports-obsession angle and real-world championship framing give it a hook, but the Farrelly brothers play it straight rather than inventively. The ending gets a slight bump for capitalizing on the genuine historical moment of the Red Sox breaking the curse, giving it an earned emotional lift that transcends the formulaic setup.
