Nine Months (1995)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

When he finds out his longtime girlfriend is pregnant, a commitment-phobe realizes he might have to change his lifestyle for better or much, much worse.

The Quartile Take

Nine Months is a fairly formulaic romantic comedy that hits all the expected beats of the commitment-phobe-faces-fatherhood story without much surprise or invention. Hugh Grant's charm and a capable supporting cast including Tom Arnold and Jeff Goldblum elevate what is otherwise a paint-by-numbers script. The cinematography is competent but unremarkable, and the ending resolves exactly as genre convention demands. The film offers little that distinguishes it from other mid-90s Hollywood romantic comedies, making it a passable but forgettable entry in the genre.
