As the daring thief Arsène Lupin ransacks the homes of wealthy Parisians, the police, with a secret weapon in their arsenal, attempt to ferret him out.
The 2004 French adaptation of the classic Arsène Lupin stories offers handsome production values and capable performances but struggles with a convoluted, overlong plot that tries to cram too many elements together. The cinematography captures period Paris adequately but without particular distinction. As an adaptation of a beloved literary character, it brings little fresh interpretation to the material, feeling like a fairly conventional swashbuckling adventure. The ending feels rushed and unsatisfying given the setup, leaving threads unresolved. A middling entry in the Lupin canon that fails to capitalize on its potential.
