After her return from school in Paris, a playboy finally takes notice of his family's chauffeur's daughter Sabrina, who's long had a crush on him, but he questions his more serious brother's motives when he warns against getting involved with her.
This 1995 remake of the Wilder classic struggles to justify its existence. The plot faithfully follows the original but lacks the wit and bite of the 1954 version, feeling somewhat toothless and predictable. Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond are competent but lack the electric chemistry needed to sell the romance, while Greg Kinnear is charming in his debut. Sydney Pollack's direction is polished but unremarkable, with handsome Long Island and Paris locations doing most of the visual heavy lifting. As a remake of a beloved classic, novelty is inherently limited — it adds little new perspective or reinterpretation. The ending resolves too neatly and without much earned emotional weight, feeling rushed rather than satisfying.
