A mysterious woman comes to compete in a quick-draw elimination tournament, in a town taken over by a notorious gunman.
Sam Raimi's stylized Western is a visual tour de force — its kinetic camerawork, dutch angles, and inventive shot composition elevate it well above typical genre fare. The ensemble (Stone, Hackman, Crowe, DiCaprio) delivers committed performances that keep the thin material engaging. The plot, however, is a bare-bones revenge framework with paper-thin motivations and a tournament structure that grows repetitive. The ending, while visually flashy, feels rushed and emotionally hollow given how little character work preceded it. Novelty sits in the middle — it has Raimi's unmistakable visual fingerprints and genre-blending energy, but the revisionist Western concept itself was well-trodden by 1995.
