Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines (2012)

Quartile rating: 5/10 · 1 rating

A small West Virginia town is hosting the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where throngs of costumed party goers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals kill the fun when they trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students.

The Quartile Take

Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines is a deeply formulaic entry in an already derivative franchise. The plot retreads the same cannibal hillbilly slasher beats with no meaningful variation, simply relocating the carnage to a Halloween festival setting. Acting is serviceable at best, with characters existing solely as kill fodder. Cinematography is competent but uninspired direct-to-video work. Novelty scores a 1 as this is the fifth installment of a series that itself borrowed heavily from existing slasher traditions, offering nothing distinctive or singular in conception or execution. The ending follows the bleak survival horror formula without any memorable twist or emotional resonance.
