Grave Encounters 2 is a fairly by-the-numbers found footage horror sequel that adds a meta layer (film students investigating the original film as if it were real) but largely retreads the haunted asylum premise of its predecessor. The plot is thin and formulaic, the acting serviceable but unremarkable, the found footage cinematography competent but offers nothing beyond genre conventions, and the ending is bleak but predictable. The meta conceit provides a slight novelty bump but isn't developed with enough originality to distinguish itself meaningfully. A middling entry in the found footage horror subgenre.
