The Collection (2012)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Arkin escapes with his life from the vicious grips of "The Collector" during an entrapment party where he adds beautiful Elena to his "Collection." Instead of recovering from the trauma, Arkin is suddenly abducted from the hospital by mercenaries hired by Elena's wealthy father. Arkin is blackmailed to team up with the mercenaries and track down The Collector's booby trapped warehouse and save Elena.

The Quartile Take

The Collection is a competent but derivative horror sequel that doubles down on the original's elaborate kill-trap gimmick. The plot is formulaic — a rescue mission into a booby-trapped lair — with thin characterization and predictable beats. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable across the board. Cinematography leans into grimy, high-energy chaos with some effective tension, the one area where it rises slightly above its genre peers. Novelty is low; it recycles the Collector's established bag of tricks without meaningfully expanding the mythology or offering a distinctive voice. The ending is underwhelming, leaving little resolution and setting up another sequel without satisfying payoff.
