The Quartile Take

Quarantine is a shot-for-shot English-language remake of the Spanish [REC], offering little original creative vision beyond its source material. The plot is functional but derivative, relying on familiar found-footage zombie-virus tropes without adding new layers. Acting is serviceable with Jennifer Carpenter delivering a committed, frantic performance that elevates the material. Cinematography captures the claustrophobic, chaotic handheld aesthetic effectively within the genre's conventions. The ending, mirroring [REC]'s iconic final scene, remains genuinely unsettling and effective even in transplanted form. Novelty suffers significantly as it is explicitly a remake with minimal creative divergence.
