Beatrix Potter, the author of the beloved children's book "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", struggles for love, happiness and success.
Miss Potter is a charming, warmly crafted biographical romance anchored by Renée Zellweger's committed performance and lush Lake District cinematography that genuinely elevates the material. The acting across the board is strong, with Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson adding texture to relatively conventional roles. Visually, the film is a treat, blending pastoral English landscapes with whimsical animated sequences that bring Potter's illustrations to life. However, the plot follows a fairly standard biopic-romance arc — artistic woman fights convention, finds love, suffers loss, finds herself — without meaningful subversion. Its novelty is limited; it occupies a well-worn prestige biopic lane. The ending, while emotionally satisfying, wraps up a little too neatly to feel fully earned.
