The Quartile Take

The second part of the Dark Knight Returns adaptation delivers on the source material's most iconic confrontations — the Joker's chilling finale and the landmark Batman vs Superman showdown. The plot is tightly structured and thematically rich, exploring ideology, authoritarianism, and the cost of heroism. The ending is one of the most memorable in DC animation, staying faithful to Frank Miller's provocative conclusion. Acting is competent but uneven, with Peter Weller's stoic Batman working well though some supporting voices feel flat. Cinematography/animation captures the dark, angular Miller aesthetic faithfully but isn't visually groundbreaking beyond its source. Novelty is solid — the film benefits from the singular voice of the graphic novel, but as an adaptation it doesn't transcend its source material enough to score higher.
