"Notorious" is the story of Christopher Wallace. Through raw talent and sheer determination, Wallace transforms himself from Brooklyn street hustler (once selling crack to pregnant women) to one of the greatest rappers of all time: The Notorious B.I.G. Follow his meteoric rise to fame and his refusal to succumb to expectations - redefining our notion of "The American Dream."
Notorious (2009) is a serviceable but conventional music biopic that follows the well-worn rise-and-fall structure of the genre. The plot hits expected beats without much narrative surprise, and the film leans heavily on nostalgia for the era rather than offering fresh dramatic insight. Acting is competent, with Jamal Woolard delivering a committed physical and vocal performance as Biggie, though supporting roles are uneven. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable, doing little to visually distinguish the film from other urban biopics of the period. Novelty is limited — it follows the standard biopic template closely and feels formulaic despite its compelling subject. The ending, dealing with Biggie's unsolved murder and legacy, carries genuine emotional weight and is handled with appropriate gravity, elevating the final act above the middling middle sections.
