The Quartile Take

My Bloody Valentine (2009) is a remake of the 1981 slasher that leans heavily into its 3D gimmick, delivering competent but formulaic horror. The plot recycles the original's setup with a few added twists around the killer's identity, but the screenplay is thin and the characters are largely underdeveloped archetypes. Acting is serviceable at best — Jensen Ackles and Jaime King do what they can with limited material. Cinematography earns a slight boost for its energetic use of 3D staging, with kills and set pieces designed to exploit depth effectively, giving it a slightly distinctive visual flair even if derivative overall. Novelty is low — it's a by-the-numbers remake that adds little conceptually beyond the 3D presentation. The ending twist provides a reasonable payoff that improves slightly on the middling build-up, landing it just above average for the subgenre.
