The Quartile Take

Dead Snow earns its highest marks for Novelty — Nazi zombies in a snowy Norwegian mountain setting is a genuinely distinctive and memorable high-concept horror-comedy premise executed with self-aware glee. The cinematography makes strong use of the stark, beautiful winter landscape for effective contrast with the gore. The plot is largely functional genre scaffolding — a group of students picked off one by one — with little surprise beyond the central conceit. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable, typical of the ensemble slasher format. The ending delivers satisfying genre payoff without transcending expectations.
