The Quartile Take

Imagine Me & You is a charming, warm British romantic comedy that handles its lesbian love story with lightness and sincerity, but it largely follows familiar rom-com conventions — the love triangle, the moment of realization, the dash to the airport. The performances are appealing (Piper Perabo and Lena Headey have genuine chemistry, Matthew Goode is endearing as Heck) but none are exceptional. Cinematography is competent London-tinted rom-com fare without distinctive visual ambition. The novelty is limited — while its lesbian protagonist was somewhat refreshing for mainstream rom-coms of its era, the story beats themselves are thoroughly conventional. The ending is satisfying and emotionally earned within its genre but unsurprising.
