Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A thirteen-year-old French girl deals with moving to a new city and school in Paris, while at the same time her parents are getting a divorce.

The Quartile Take

This 1980 French coming-of-age drama follows fairly well-trodden territory — adolescent displacement, parental divorce, and teenage crush — without finding a particularly distinctive voice or approach. The plot is competent but unremarkable, hitting familiar beats of the teen-movie and family-drama genres without subverting or elevating them meaningfully. Acting and cinematography are serviceable for a modest French production of the era but don't stand out. The ending resolves rather conventionally without leaving a strong impression. Novelty suffers most as the film doesn't carve out a singular identity amid the rich tradition of French coming-of-age cinema.
