Mindhunters (2004)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Trainees in the FBI's psychological profiling program must put their training into practice when they discover a killer in their midst. Based very loosely on Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.

The Quartile Take

Mindhunters is a competent but formulaic thriller that borrows heavily from the 'And Then There Were None' template without adding much fresh. The plot offers decent twists and a reasonably engaging setup but becomes increasingly implausible and convoluted as it progresses. The acting is uneven across a reasonably starry cast (Val Kilmer, LL Cool J, Jonny Lee Miller) with few standout performances. Cinematography is functional and stylish in places but unremarkable. The ending attempts a clever reveal but feels forced and somewhat unsatisfying, undermining the buildup. Overall a watchable but derivative entry in the serial-killer thriller subgenre.
