Haunter (2013)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A teenager is stuck in a time loop that is not quite the same each time. She must uncover the truth but her actions have consequences for herself and others.

The Quartile Take

Haunter flips the haunted house formula on its head by centering the story on the ghost rather than the living, giving it a genuinely distinctive concept. The time loop mechanic layered with possession and a serial killer mythology is inventive and well-conceived. However, the execution stumbles toward the finale, where the resolution feels rushed and undercooked, failing to pay off the intriguing setup. Acting is competent with Abigail Breslin carrying the film solidly but without standout support. Cinematography is atmospheric but unremarkable. The novelty of its premise is its strongest asset.
