Things couldn't be better for Derek Charles. He's just received a big promotion at work, and has a wonderful marriage with his beautiful wife, Sharon. However, into this idyllic world steps Lisa, a temporary worker at Derek's office. Lisa begins to stalk Derek, jeopardizing all he holds dear.
Obsessed is a largely by-the-numbers erotic thriller/stalker yarn that offers little the genre hasn't seen before — it closely echoes Fatal Attraction and Unfaithful without meaningfully adding to them. The plot is predictable and formulaic, hitting every expected beat. Acting is functional but unremarkable; Beyoncé Knowles and Idris Elba do competent work but the script gives them limited range to demonstrate it. Cinematography is workmanlike and generic, nothing visually distinctive. Novelty is genuinely low — this is a derivative rehash of a well-worn template. The ending, however, delivers the crowd-pleasing cathartic confrontation the audience came for, executing that particular beat with enough energy to stand slightly above the rest of the film.
