The biographical sweep covers decades faithfully but follows a conventional cradle-to-presidency structure that feels dutiful rather than cinematically inventive. The cinematography captures South African landscapes competently without distinctive visual flair. As a biopic of one of history's most documented figures, it treads well-worn territory with little formal novelty. The ending, culminating in Mandela's inauguration, is emotionally resonant but expected given the well-known historical arc.
