The Quartile Take

The Quiet Ones is a competent but underwhelming period horror entry from Hammer Films. The 1970s setting and found-footage hybrid approach offer some atmospheric texture, but the plot is largely derivative, recycling familiar mad-scientist and paranormal experiment tropes without meaningful innovation. The cast, led by Jared Harris, delivers serviceable performances that elevate the thin material, though the supporting roles feel underwritten. Cinematography blends handheld and conventional shooting with modest effectiveness, creating some period-appropriate grit but nothing especially distinctive. The climax and resolution feel rushed and unsatisfying, failing to deliver on the psychological and supernatural tensions built earlier. Overall a middling horror effort that doesn't fully capitalize on its intriguing premise.
