The Final Destination (2009)

Quartile rating: 5/10 · 1 rating

A horrifying premonition saves a young man and his friends from death during a racetrack accident but terrible fates await them nonetheless.

The Quartile Take

The Final Destination is a formulaic entry in the franchise that adds little new to the established template. The premonition-saves-group-from-mass-disaster setup is recycled verbatim from three prior films, making Novelty genuinely poor. The death sequences, while gory and designed with 3D gimmickry in mind, are mechanical and lack the inventive tension of earlier installments. Acting is serviceable at best with underdeveloped characters existing only as death-sequence fodder. The cinematography is garish and overly reliant on 3D spectacle that feels cheap rather than stylish. The ending recycles the franchise's closing-loop trick without the impact it once had.
