Love, Rosie (2014)

Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating

Since the moment they met at age 5, Rosie and Alex have been best friends, facing the highs and lows of growing up side by side. A fleeting shared moment, one missed opportunity, and the decisions that follow send their lives in completely different directions. As each navigates the complexities of life, love, and everything in between, they always find their way back to each other - but is it just friendship, or something more?

The Quartile Take

Love, Rosie is a competent and charming romantic comedy-drama elevated by likable leads (Lily Collins and Sam Claflin share genuine chemistry) but hampered by a formulaic will-they-won't-they structure that relies heavily on contrived miscommunications and missed opportunities stretched thin over years. The cinematography is functional but unremarkable, with standard visual language typical of mid-budget British rom-coms. The narrative draws from Cecelia Ahern's novel but offers little that distinguishes it from countless friends-to-lovers stories — the teenage pregnancy subplot adds some texture but isn't deeply explored. The ending delivers the emotional payoff audiences expect, satisfying but not surprising. Overall a warm, watchable romance that plays it safe rather than leaving a distinctive mark.
