Freaks of Nature (2015)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

In the town of Dillford, humans, vampires and zombies were all living in peace - until the alien apocalypse arrived. Now three teenagers-one human, one vampire, and one zombie-have to team up to figure out how to get rid of the visitors.

The Quartile Take

Freaks of Nature blends monster-movie tropes with alien invasion comedy in a moderately amusing but uneven way. The premise of humans, vampires, and zombies coexisting in a small town before an alien disruption is a fun hook, but the execution is formulaic and the plot relies heavily on genre clichés rather than inventive storytelling. The cast (including Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, and Patton Oswalt) delivers competent comedic performances that elevate the material somewhat. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable genre work. The novelty lies in the mash-up concept, which feels fresher than a pure entry in any one of the represented genres, though it still hits predictable beats. The ending wraps up tidily but without much surprise or emotional payoff.
