One year after the events of the anime, Rintarou begins to feel the repercussions of extensive time travel, and eventually completely fades from reality. Kurisu, being the only companion to remember him, now must find a way to bring him back.
A competent and emotionally resonant follow-up to the beloved Steins;Gate anime, Load Region of Déjà Vu flips the central dynamic by placing Kurisu in the role of time-traveler trying to save Okabe, which is a clever inversion. However, as a film extension of the series, it largely recycles the emotional and thematic beats established in the original—time travel sacrifice, memory, identity—without adding substantial new ideas. The animation is solid but not particularly cinematic or distinctive. Acting (voice performances) is reliable and emotionally convincing, especially Asami Imai as Kurisu. The ending provides satisfying closure for fans but follows a predictable emotional arc. Overall a well-crafted but derivative extension that serves its fanbase without breaking new ground.
