United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a Kryptonite meteor to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty on the heads of the Man of Steel and his ‘partner in crime’, Batman. Heroes and villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of Superman and Batman, who must unite—and recruit help—to try and stave off the action-packed onslaught, stop the meteor Luthors plot.
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies is a faithful adaptation of the comic arc by Jeph Loeb, delivering solid animation and voice work from veteran DC animated performers. The plot, while entertaining, is fairly formulaic — Luthor as a corrupt president is well-trodden territory, and the bounty-hunt structure feels episodic rather than dramatically compelling. The animation style is clean and action-packed but doesn't push boundaries beyond the standard DC animated output of the era. Novelty is low as it closely mirrors the source comic without adding much new perspective. The ending, involving a giant robot and a convenient resolution, feels rushed and overly convenient even by comic-book standards.
