Michael and Joanna are a young and successful married couple who appear to have it all. But when Michael finds himself alone on a business trip with an attractive new colleague and Joanna encounters the other great love of her life, each is thrust into an evening of temptation.
Last Night is a quietly compelling infidelity drama that benefits from restrained, naturalistic performances from Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes, and Guillaume Canet. The parallel structure of two simultaneous temptations is competently handled but not especially original — the setup is familiar territory for relationship dramas. The cinematography is polished and atmospheric, capturing nocturnal New York with understated elegance, though it doesn't push boundaries. Where the film genuinely earns distinction is its ending: an ambiguous, emotionally honest conclusion that refuses easy resolution or moral judgment, landing with quiet devastation rather than melodrama. The novelty is limited — it treads well-worn ground thematically — but the film executes its familiar premise with enough sincerity to rise above average.
