The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

The Quartile Take

The Conjuring 2 delivers strong atmospheric horror with James Wan's masterful visual craft — long takes, creeping camera work, and the iconic nun/Valak imagery elevate the cinematography well above genre norms. The performances from Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are warm and grounded, anchoring the scares in genuine emotional investment. However, the plot is largely formulaic haunted-house territory, hitting familiar beats from the first film and countless predecessors, and the Enfield Poltergeist case framing doesn't add much structural novelty. The ending resolves a bit too neatly and conveniently, consistent with franchise-horror conventions. A solid, well-crafted sequel that excels technically but doesn't break new ground narratively.
