Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A chance encounter between two strangers in Grand Central Terminal sparks a life-changing, nighttime sojourn through New York City. They grow into each other's most trusted confidants when an evening of unexpected adventure forces them to confront their fears and take control of their lives.

The Quartile Take

Before We Go is a familiar two-strangers-one-night romantic drama that leans heavily on well-worn genre conventions — the midnight walk through a city, emotional confessions, a bittersweet parting. The plot offers few surprises and resolves somewhat flatly, leaning into sentiment without fully earning it. Chris Evans directs and stars alongside Alice Eve, and both deliver competent, warm performances that elevate the material somewhat, though neither reaches exceptional heights. The New York City nighttime cinematography is pleasant and atmospheric but unremarkable. Novelty is low — the film echoes Before Sunrise without approaching its depth or distinctiveness, and the keywords (infidelity, broken heart, stranger romance) confirm its derivative nature. The ending is emotionally muted and fails to deliver a truly resonant payoff.
