Quartile rating: 4.5/10 · 1 rating
A mother and her young son release unimaginable horrors from the attic of their rural dream home.
The Disappointments Room is a largely forgettable haunted house horror that fails to deliver on its intriguing premise. The plot retreads well-worn genre territory without adding meaningful twists, the acting is competent but uninspired even from lead Kate Beckinsale, the cinematography is murky and generic, and the ending is particularly unsatisfying and incoherent. The film earns its poor reputation as a derivative, by-the-numbers entry in the haunted house subgenre with no distinctive voice or memorable craft.
