After 29-year-old Adaline recovers from a nearly lethal accident, she inexplicably stops growing older. As the years stretch on and on, Adaline keeps her secret to herself until she meets a man who changes her life.
The Age of Adaline is a visually sumptuous romantic fantasy elevated by Blake Lively's composed, enigmatic performance and genuinely beautiful cinematography that captures both period nostalgia and modern San Francisco elegantly. The immortality premise, while engaging, follows a fairly familiar romantic fantasy structure with predictable emotional beats, and the ending resolves neatly but without much surprise. The supporting cast, particularly Harrison Ford in a poignant role, adds warmth, though the plot never quite digs as deep into its own concept as it could.
