Off the coast of North America, locals simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to revert their undead relatives back to normal.
Survival of the Dead is widely considered one of Romero's weakest zombie outings. The plot — feuding island families amid the zombie apocalypse — has an interesting premise but is poorly executed, feeling muddled and tonally inconsistent. The acting is largely amateurish and unconvincing across the board. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable, lacking the gritty atmosphere of Romero's earlier work. Novelty is limited; while the island setting and 'cure' angle offer a slight twist, the film ultimately retreads familiar ground without the sharp social commentary that made Romero's classic entries distinctive. The ending is unsatisfying and fails to deliver meaningful resolution or impact.
