The Quartile Take

Replicas is a sci-fi thriller with an intriguing premise — cloning and consciousness transfer following a family tragedy — but squanders it with a muddled, increasingly illogical script. Keanu Reeves delivers a flat performance that struggles to sell the emotional weight of the story. The cinematography is functional but unremarkable, lacking any visual identity. The concept of grief intersecting with bioethics and cloning has been explored more compellingly elsewhere, making this feel derivative rather than distinctive. The ending is particularly weak, resolving in a rushed and implausible manner that undermines whatever tension had built up, feeling more like a franchise setup than a satisfying conclusion.
