A struggling writer finds a shortcut to fame, but a blackmailer threatens to ruin his perfect life.
A Perfect Man is a modest French-language drama-thriller about literary fraud and blackmail. The plot is competent but travels well-worn ground—the plagiarist-exposed narrative has been done many times. Acting from Naomi Watts and others is serviceable but unremarkable. Cinematography is functional without distinction. The premise offers little novelty, recycling familiar themes of deception and identity in a by-the-numbers thriller framework. The ending provides adequate closure but no real surprise or resonance.
