Two teenage boys unwittingly summon an ancient evil entity known as The Blind One by delving into black magic while trying to escape their mundane lives.
Deathgasm is a gleefully gory New Zealand splatter-comedy that leans hard into its heavy metal aesthetic and Sam Raimi-esque practical effects mayhem. The plot is serviceable genre fun but fairly thin scaffolding for set pieces. Acting is enthusiastic but uneven, with the leads charming enough but supporting work patchy. The cinematography is competent and energetic without being particularly distinctive. Its novelty comes from the specific heavy-metal-worship angle and NZ sensibility, making it feel distinct from standard horror-comedies, though it doesn't reinvent the wheel. The ending deflates somewhat, wrapping up hastily after the gleeful carnage of the middle act.
