Tony is admitted to a rehabilitation center after a serious ski accident. Dependent on the medical staff and pain relievers, she takes time to look back on a turbulent relationship that she experienced with Georgio.
My King is anchored by exceptional performances, particularly from Emmanuelle Bercot (who won Best Actress at Cannes) and Vincent Cassel, whose volatile, magnetic chemistry drives the film. The non-linear structure between present rehabilitation and past romantic turbulence is competently handled but not especially inventive. Maïwenn's direction captures the intoxicating and destructive nature of obsessive love with emotional honesty, though the visual style is workmanlike rather than distinctive. The plot itself, while emotionally resonant, treads familiar territory of toxic relationships and codependency. The ending offers a quietly dignified resolution that feels earned without being particularly surprising.
